Xian's Dove Campaign for Real Beauty
My friend Xian and I have been hard at work on developing her idea for the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty. When she told me about her plan to introduce Dove to the world of people with disabilities who are sometimes overlooked, I was inspired to aid Xian in her quest. She had already written a few things that she wanted to say and address to Dove, but needed a director and editor to really make her idea shine. Our combined efforts and passion to make something great bore fruit. Check it out below! If you get inspired be sure to leave comments and visit her Facebook page at Xian's Real Beauty Dream

Stay safe when you hit the slopes!
Check out this video I put together for How To. Unfortunately, it wasn't accepted for the website. But why let it go to waste. Check it out here! For a limited time only. It was a quick shoot, but I thought the final edit turned out pretty funny.
Put a Ring on It: The Pilot Episode
Extra! Extra! Read all about it! or just watch it. You see it here and no where else; my acting debut. I'm in about two shots, but the final product came out extremely well made. There were many talents working on this project and I'm just happy that I was able to be part of the process, even though it wasn't in anyway creative.
Tina Chang: Brooklyn Poet Laureate
Introducing the lovely and talented Poet Laureate of Brooklyn, Tina Chang. She was appointed by the Brooklyn Borough President, Marty Markowitz, to spread the art of poetry to the masses. Check her story out here.

Put a Ring on It
So I decided to be an extra on this new pilot for WEtv. The idea is to take a professional stylist, designer, and techie and have them plan a surprise proposal for the groom to be. The shoot today had Michael, the groom(also the director and producer), propose to his girlfriend in a restaurant. His girlfriend thinks that she's meeting with a journalist who is writing an article about her. As Michael reveals himself, he stops time in the restaurant causing everyone to freeze in place at their tables. You have to see it to get the feeling how amazing the moment really was. Time vanished for their moment of happiness.
Here are some pictures from the shoot.

Brooklyn Mixed Martial Arts
The rise of the Ultimate Fighting Champions as the sport that will save the decline of more traditional fighting sports such as Boxing. With the exception of Manny Pacquiao, who has dominated in his weight class. He is also a pretty exciting to watch. I did a piece on Brooklyn MMA, a school located in the Flatlands, Brooklyn and met its owner, Terry Gold and their Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach, Phillipe Nover. You might have seen Phillipe in the reality show, The Ultimate Fighter. I had alot of fun getting to know these guys and learning more about Mixed Martial Arts not only as a competitive fighting sport but also a great training and self defense discipline. Check it out and enjoy an introductory class!

My work on the Angry Asian Man blog

What is this I see! Interviews that I produced have found their way to one of my favorite art and culture blogs that I religiously keep up with daily. Most of my day before the morning workout is spent reading the posts on this site. The videos with Misnomer(s) and Kelly Zen-Yie Tsai are featured on Angry Asian Man I love and have high esteem for the work that Angry Asian Man continues to do as it helps keep me informed about the Asian American community as well as entertainment and the arts.

Jay Sean's most embarrassing moments
Jay Sean is an amazing dude and carried the second interview with a professional and upbeat personality. It was a long day and he had to wait for me because I was a tad late for the shoot.
Souleo talks to him about his most embarrassing moments as a performer. They had a good laugh about them and it truly shows not to take anything too seriously even for a rising star.

Wong Fu Productions Tour lands in New York

Breathing heavily, I had finally found the building where Wong Fu Productions was having their screening. I was fortunate enough to catch the last minute and a half of AJ Rafael's new music video produced by Wong Fu. These guys have something real special about them and it truly exudes through their work. Their quirky and often unintentionally humorous commentary of their projects, exploits, and collaborations made me realize why I continue to do media. Do what makes you happy, continue to crank out work even if you think it sucks because eventually you're bound to get something good or even great; it's all about progress. So if you support me, support them. They have some incredible projects about to debut, including a web series starring many of the west coast YouTube stars such as KevJumba.
I'm also creating Vlogs and other video projects with two of my friends. We're known on YouTube as BoxyCircle. Please comment and subscribe!
At the end of it all, it was great to actually see these guys in person. It feels so weird since I knew of them through YouTube for many years and today I finally see them in the flesh. Totally worth getting lost on the Columbia University campus to see them in action.

Souleo Interviews Recording Artist Jaicko
On the last post, we saw Jaicko's skills beyond singing and now hear his views on starting his career in music and how he plans to utilize it to inspire the younger generation in his native homeland of Barbados.
Tuesday, March 23, 2010
Check out this interview with Jaicko, who hails from Barbados and is known for his single, "Oh yeah". The music video for that has also been out for awhile now. We did the interview with only one mic so the sound is a little off. I also filmed an interview with Jay Sean last week, which will up shortly. Be sure to check them out!
what happened with the Director's Guild Exam?!?!
Here's an update on my Director's Guild Exam. I didn't make it the second round which is the preliminary interview. Last year, I did make it to the first round of interviews, but I guess I didn't do too well on the test this year. Even though, it was same exact exam with the same exact questions. This was my second time trying for the program, so now I have to wait a year to reapply. The fast track way to be a producer in the film/television industry wasn't meant to be, for now. Hope things will pick up in the mean time.

forget a windscreen for your mic?
I just remembered a useful technique for setting up a lavaliere mic when in a windy environment and you're caught without a windscreen to mask the noise. You can use some sticky tape and wrap it around the mic slighting edging out. This will prevent the wind blowing directly into the mic.
When I did a shoot today, the interviewee blew into the mic when she spoke, but luckily I had a windscreen on me. Whenever you're not so lucky to have one handy, be sure to have some sticky tape!
Later on the day, I did a shoot with Jay Sean, a musician from England who signed with Cash Money. The interview will probably be up in about week. I will keep you updated!

let your voice be heard Kelly Zen-Yie Tsai
I produced this segment about a spoken word artist,Kelly Zen-Yie Tsai, who has performed nationally, internationally, as well as on Russell Simmons' Def Poetry on HBO. Her poetry speaks on social, political, and cultural issues that is considered to be divisive topics yet is able to connect with audiences of many backgrounds. I hope you enjoy it! This woman really inspires me. Check it you y'all!

Sifu Norman Chin on the mic
Check out my interview with Sifu Norman Chin of the Southern Praying Mantis Lion Dance Team. Producing this story has a special place in my heart because I grew up practicing Lion Dance and have known Sifu Chin for many years.
The segment should be the first one after the studio interview.

my dream camera
I think I just found my dream camera. A Panasonic DVX200 with a Letus 35mm lens adapter for great Depth Of Field and film like visuals. There are some amazing cinematography tutorials on YouTube. The videos show you step by step on how the set was designed and lighting placement. I was surprised how simple adjustments can make a huge difference in your visuals.
Here is a piece I produced for Sector B: The Business of Brooklyn, a show that focuses on local business sprouting up right here in your neighborhood. I went over to the Old American Can Factory in Gowanus to check out the collaboration between the Farmers and Makers market. Check it out, maybe you'll find something worthwhile to buy. I love wine and bought a few bottles from a Brooklyn based wine company called Brooklyn Oenology.

I just got letter in the mail and the NY Assistant Director Training Program has accepted my application. The next stage in the process is taking the exam, which is a mix of logic, reasoning and reading comprehension questions. I've been through the process last year and made it to the first interview. Hopefully, I will make it through to the final stage this time around.

sketchies contest!
A short film for a sketch comedy contest we entered. Zach and Gael find themselves on a wild adventure when they discover a magic flute. Alas we didn't win, but we had a hell of time making it. "Can I bring my Conch?"

I recently filmed two segments for the news magazine show, Brooklyn Review. I never knew there was a Toy Museum anywhere, let alone one in the heart of Brooklyn. It was great meeting with the founder and how her journey led her to create it. Great job on the piece, Fred! The more I watch it the more I like it! And Tati reports on the Department of Transportation's new signs directing pedestrians to cultural hubs around Downtown Brooklyn.
